About Us

The Havyaka Association of the Americas (HAA) was established in 1982 with the vision of creating a common platform to promote inclusive, egalitarian values and to preserve our cultural traditions for present and future generations. This organization strives to unite individuals of Havyaka descent, facilitating mutual support and engagement through various cultural, educational, and social programs that embody the spirit of our heritage. CHAA serves as the Canadian chapter of HAA and is a registered non-profit organization in Canada, dedicated to fostering connections among members, enhancing community involvement, and ensuring that the rich tapestry of Havyaka culture continues to thrive. Through events such as workshops, festivals, and community service projects, CHAA not only celebrates the vibrant history of the Havyaka people but also empowers future generations to embrace their identity with pride and actively contribute to society.

Activities undertaken by CHAA are:

Promote cultural programs, traditional music, vegetarian cooking, vedic scriptural values, Yoga, and similar activities among members and their children, fostering an environment of learning and appreciation for our rich heritage and encouraging participation in events that celebrate these values.
Assist seniors to integrate with younger generation and pass on their professional expertise, cultural, moral and ethical values, while fostering a strong sense of community engagement and mutual respect between the two age groups, which can lead to enriching experiences and opportunities for collaboration, learning, and understanding.
Assist seniors to lead an active and comfortable life by providing them with the resources, support, and opportunities they need to engage in social activities, maintain their physical health, and pursue hobbies they enjoy.
Assist new immigrants to adapt to Canadian culture, values and environment by providing information on local customs, facilitating social connections, and offering resources for community integration and support.
Conduct programs useful for children and youth for their overall development, focusing on enhancing their educational skills, promoting social responsibility, and fostering emotional well-being to prepare them for future challenges.
Raise funds and donate to other charitable organizations in Canada.
Award scholarships to dedicated high school students every year.
Promote Yakshagana, one of the traditional theatre arts of India, which features vibrant costumes, intricate makeup, and expressive performances, in association with Yakshamitra Toronto.
